APTOS Delegated Voting Feature Now Live in GovScan!

With APTOS being the first chain on GovScan for which in-app voting was enabled, Delegated Voting is the latest update that went live in our ultimate blockchain governance app!

APTOS Community members can now delegate their voting power directly via the GovScan interface, and register to become a Delegate. Following the initial release of the in-app voting feature, this new update is another step towards fully streamlining the voting process for blockchain governance initiatives.

Everyone can now get more out of GovScan by registering as Aptos Delegates within the platform. This streamlined process allows GovScan users to easily identify and delegate voting power to Delegates they trust, fostering a more direct connection between stakeholders and those securing the network.

Why Delegated Voting?

Previously, we’ve looked at the intricacies of the whole governance process of APTOS.

Proposals begin with the Aptos Improvement Proposal (AIP) process, starting from an initial suggestion on the Aptos Foundation AIP GitHub. This progresses to the creation of an on-chain proposal through the aptos_governance module and concludes with a vote by the community. For more details, you can check out our entire overview on the APTOS Governance Process.

As the name suggests, delegated voting implies passing your voting power or rights as a user to another participant, who can vote on your behalf. Delegated voting plays a crucial role in DAOs and blockchain networks by supporting more democratic and efficient governance. It is also relevant in other fields that involve group decision-making, such as corporate governance, community organizations, and online platforms.

How Does It Work In GovScan?

Once logged in with your preferred APTOS Wallet (of which we currently support 15) you will see a “Delegates” panel, with profiles where you can pass over your APTOS voting rights.

For each delegate profile, you will be able to check:

  • Their total voting power
  • Total delegators number (users who have passed their voting rights to said Delegate)
  • Wallet address
  • Participation rate

One level lower, you can see in detail their participation pattern, as well as notes on each cast vote (should the Delegate choose to add these notes).

Should you need to, you can also Cancel the delegation at any given moment. The cancellation will be applied at the end of the epoch.

Users can also find the “Create Delegate Profile” component, where they can set up their Delegate profile.

Registration is permissionless, requiring only a visit to the delegates section of the app, followed by login with an Aptos wallet and completion of the requested information. This empowers GovScan users to make informed decisions when delegating their voting rights, going beyond simply staking on a validator.

The delegated voting feature on GovScan empowers the APTOS community by offering greater flexibility and easier participation in the governance process. This innovative development allows users to become a Delegate or to choose trusted delegates who align with their interests, while still maintaining control over their voting rights through the ability to cancel delegation at any time. With both in-app voting and delegated voting now available, GovScan is pioneering a new era of blockchain governance marked by decentralized decision-making and enhanced community engagement.

GovScan is still in its early stages, so for more information on the product check out the comprehensive documentation available here and stay tuned for future iterations.

Moreover, we value user feedback and are constantly working to cover as many community needs as possible. If you have ideas for improvements, or suggestions for new integrations,  please share them with us at [email protected].
