New feature alert: supporting AIPs is now made easier with the new voting feature available for GovScan users!

APTOS Governance – Overview

The Aptos blockchain incorporates an on-chain governance mechanism allowing community members to propose, vote on, and implement changes aimed at optimizing the management of the core protocol. This governance framework encompasses modifications to blockchain parameters (like rewards’ rate or unbonding duration), updates to core code, enhancements or bug fixes to the Aptos Framework modules, and the introduction of new framework modules. Proposals are initiated through the Aptos Improvement Proposal (AIP) process, starting from a suggestion in the Aptos Foundation AIP GitHub, moving to an on-chain proposal creation via the aptos_governance module, and culminating in community voting.

Voting on proposals requires a staked position in the network, and does not require running a validator node. The governance protocol specifies that proposals must secure a minimal vote count within a set expiration period to be considered for resolution. In some cases, a proposal can be expedited if it garners support exceeding 50% of the total supply before the deadline (the same applies to the opposite process: mass rejection of a proposal if more than 50% of votes are against). The proposer’s stake has to be locked for at least the entire duration of the voting process. The system mitigates spam and ensures serious proposals.

GovScan Users Can Now Vote In-App!

GovScan now allows community members to easily push for their preferred AIPs directly through the app!

You only need to sign up and connect your Aptos wallet. Once connected, you will be presented with the total voting power owned, as well as the ability to vote on current active proposals and explore your voting history directly through the Govscan interface. With this feature, GovScan aims to simplify the monitoring and voting process exponentially.

GovScan is still in its early stages, so for more information on the product check out the comprehensive documentation available here and stay tuned for future iterations.

Moreover, we value user feedback and are constantly working to cover as many community needs as possible. If you have ideas for improvements, or you have any suggestions for new integrations please share them with us at [email protected].
